So, $50/4 years = about a buck per month. I've had mine for years now, it's the second version that's still plastic and it still works. In addition to that I think that the cost for the actual dongle is pretty low all things considered.

I agree with others that it's worth having licenses on a key that's easy to move between computers. Think about it this way: Take your hourly compensation and multiply that by the time it'll take you to get your own USB iLok "clone" going (plus the price of hardware/software) and see if it's still sufficiently below $50. And 'no', if you want a software that needs the iLok dongle then that's what you have to get. Is there a way to create your own ilok key so no costly errors take place such as moving it to a computer all the time etcI think "beyond reasonable" sounds like "more than" rather than "not".

There has to be a reasonable solution, $50 bucks for a USB key to buy software is beyond reasonable when we are protecting both us and the developers products from been pirated.
